Heather Kitchen offers specialized counseling to promote healing, improve health and enhance well-being. She has extensive experience working in a variety of healthcare and psychiatric settings helping individuals and families make significant lifestyle changes in coping with health and mental health issues. If you’re experiencing anxiety, depression or other psychological symptoms due to an illness or another issue, consider the benefits of counseling.

Using a holistic perspective, Heather can help you:

  • Navigate the physical, social and psychological aspects of chronic illness or pain.
  • Learn to reduce stress through the use of self-relaxation and other behavioral stress management techniques.
  • Explore issues and strategies related to healthy eating and weight management.
  • Cope with grief and loss associated with a chronic or life-threatening illness.
  • Increase support by improving relationships.
  • Learn healthy self-talk to improve self-esteem and reduce depression or anxiety.

Ms. Kitchen earned her Master in Social Work (MSW) degree for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a concentration in health and mental health practice. She also is a licensed clinical social worker in North Carolina.

A frequent speaker, Heather enjoys presenting to the public and healthcare professionals on a variety of topics related to chronic illness, disordered eating, obesity, depression, stress and anxiety disorders. Ms. Kitchen is a member of the Oncology Association for Social Workers and is the Greensboro Coordinator for the National Eating Disorders Association. Ms. Kitchen also serves as a member of the steering committee for the Piedmont Chapter of the National Association of Social Wokers in North Carolina.

Confidentiality

Heather Kitchen adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice adopted by the NC Board of Licensed Clinical Social Workers. All information shared with her is held in strict confidence. Heather will not disclose information to anyone without written permission from the client.

Exemptions to confidentiality include: (1) When a client presents a clear and imminent danger to self or others, (2) when abuse of a child (someone under the age of 18) or elderly person is suspected or known, and (3) when a court order demands that confidential information be revealed.

Appointment Availability and Referral Information

Services provided by Heather Kitchen are offered as part of Integrative Therapies’ multidisciplinary program. The director or physical therapist may make referrals as part of an individually designed treatment program at the outset of treatment. A client also may be referred by another treatment team member later in the therapy program. Clients may also elect on their own to see Heather during the course of their treatment at Integrative Therapies. Heather is currently available to see clients on Tuesday and Friday of each week.
